Safety first

Stop and consult a qualified electrical professional if you see burn damage, exposed conductors, swelling or leakage from batteries. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions and the authority having jurisdiction. Do not perform energized work or removal unless performed by appropriately qualified personnel.

01

What we review and why exact identification matters

We review qualifying DC, solar PV, battery and UPS circuit breakers for potential purchase. Because DC-rated and battery-compatible breakers differ from standard AC devices in markings, internal construction and approved voltage scope, we base any review and value assessment on the equipment’s permanent markings and supplied documentation rather than appearance alone.

Never rely on photographs of a chassis or handle shape to establish DC suitability. Submissions that clearly show the exact manufacturer name, model or catalog number, plus stamped voltage and application ratings, allow our engineering and procurement reviewers to assess commercial fit more quickly.

  • Qualifying items may be submitted for purchase review; submission is not a purchase agreement.
  • We do not infer DC suitability from external appearance—permanent markings and ratings are required.
  • Include any IEC/UL/other marking information that appears on the product data plate or label.
02

Exact identification fields to capture

When documenting a breaker, capture each field that appears on the nameplate or molded label. These fields are the starting point for an engineering review: manufacturer name, full model or catalog number (not shorthand), trip unit type or electronics module designation, stamped voltage and ampere ratings, interrupting or breaking capacity where listed, and any application designation such as PV, battery, DC or UPS.

Date codes, lot or serial numbers, and visible revision or suffix codes are also important. If a breaker contains a replaceable trip unit or accessory (shunt trip, undervoltage release, electronic trip), show the part numbers for those components separately. Accurate identification reduces delays while our electrical engineering and subject-matter experts confirm whether the item fits DC/battery/UPS use-cases.

  • Manufacturer name and full model/catalog number (exact characters)
  • Stamped voltage rating and whether DC/PV/battery/UPS is indicated
  • Trip unit or electronic module part number and any accessory IDs
  • Serial or date code and visible condition descriptors
03

Honest condition descriptions we need

Use clear, objective language when describing condition. Common useful descriptors include: new-surplus (unused, original packaging), serviceable used (normal wear, tripped history unknown), found-damaged (visible mechanical or thermal damage), missing-parts, and cleaned/refurbished. Avoid ambiguous adjectives that could be interpreted differently by different reviewers.

Call out any visible corrosion, burn marks, discolored insulation, loose or missing handles, broken latches, or evidence of moisture ingress. If you have maintenance or test records, include them as supporting documentation. Note that describing condition is part of the submission — it is not a warranty or declaration of fitness for a particular electrical purpose.

  • New-surplus, serviceable used, found-damaged, missing-parts — use objective terms
  • List any maintenance or insulation/test records you can provide
  • Declare visible corrosion, burn marks, moisture exposure, or mechanical damage
04

Photos and documents that speed review

Provide clear, in-focus photos of the product data plate or label, the breaker front with handle position, the trip unit area (if accessible), and any accessory or terminal markings. Include close-ups of all stamped ratings and any serial or date codes. Wide-angle photos of the overall item and photos showing the breaker mounted in its original panel or rack can be helpful for context, but they do not replace close-up identification photos.

Attach any available datasheets, test reports, or factory documentation. For lots, include a representative photo plus an inventory list that ties model numbers to counts. Well-documented submissions require fewer follow-ups from our engineering reviewers and transport/environmental team.

  • Close-up of nameplate/data plate showing exact markings
  • Photo of trip unit and terminal area showing ratings and accessories
  • Representative photos for lots plus an itemized inventory list
  • Attach datasheets, maintenance records, or test reports if available
05

Battery separation and transport disclosure workflow

Because batteries present separate transport and environmental considerations, breakers submitted for review should be documented independently of any connected battery assemblies. Do not submit breaker assemblies that remain physically attached to battery modules or cells. Instead, declare whether breakers were used with batteries and provide evidence that batteries have been separated prior to shipment or inspection.

When batteries were present with the equipment, list the battery chemistry/type, whether batteries remain with the shipment, and any available battery identification. Our transport/environmental reviewers will flag items that require further handling or documentation. Submitting this information early helps our teams evaluate shipping feasibility and whether additional disposition steps are necessary.

  • Declare whether batteries were present and whether they will be shipped with the breakers
  • If batteries are not included, state that breakers are separated from battery modules
  • Provide battery type and identification when batteries are part of the submission
06

Commercial fit: what increases likelihood of a purchase review

Commercial fit is evaluated by electrical engineering, procurement and the buyer team using the identification, condition, demand and lot size. Items with clear, permanent DC/PV/battery/UPS markings, intact trip units and documented history are easier to assess and therefore more likely to progress to an offer. Large homogeneous lots of the same model and rating are also faster to value than mixed lots.

Our reviewers include an electrical engineer/SME who assesses application suitability, a transport/environmental reviewer who evaluates shipping constraints, and the owner/buyer who considers market demand and inventory. Submissions that omit critical data or that mix AC-only marked devices with devices claiming DC service will require follow-up and may be ineligible for purchase review until clarified.

  • Clear DC/PV/battery ratings and readable manufacturer markings speed evaluation
  • Homogeneous lots and accompanying test/maintenance records improve commercial fit
  • Expert review areas: electrical SME, transport/environmental, and buyer assessment

How to submit and what to expect next

To start, gather the identification photos, condition notes, lot counts and any battery separation declarations described above. Submit those materials through our upload form or by the channel specified on this page. A complete initial submission reduces follow-up and helps our technical reviewers determine whether a formal inspection or quote is appropriate.

Important: a website submission is not an appraisal, offer, acceptance, safety inspection, compatibility determination, purchase order, pickup commitment, or shipping authorization. After you submit, our team may request additional information or a physical inspection. Follow all manufacturer instructions and use appropriately qualified electrical professionals and the authority having jurisdiction for any energized equipment or removal work.

  • Include exact markings, condition description, close-up photos and battery separation details
  • Submission is for review only and does not constitute a purchase agreement
  • Expect technical follow-up from electrical and transport reviewers if needed
